The notion of "pregnancy dentistry" -

has emerged not so long ago. A new branch of dentistry appeared due to development of medicine and medical equipment. Special pregnancy anesthesia as well as safe X-ray equipment appeared. Now dental treatment is safe for both mother and future baby.

DENTISTRY FOR PREGNANT WOMEN

Acceptable and unacceptable dental manipulations during pregnancy.

  Modern clinics, specialized in pregnancy dentistry offer careful choice of anesthesia, achieving two goals at a time: to provide effective anesthesia and to keep the baby safe.
  Digital X-rays machines have local effect (only on the area of 2-3 centimeters), doses of radiation are minimized, while protective means containing lead are completely reliable.

Acceptable dental manipulations during pregnancy:
  · Cavities treatment;
  · Periodontitis treatment;
  · Teeth extraction;
  · Teeth and gums inflammation treatment ;
  · Braces installation .

Dental manipulations, unadvisable during pregnancy:

  · Prosthetics;
  · Implantation;
  · Dental calculus removal;

  Dental manipulation, prohibited during pregnancy:
  1. Medicines containing arsenic or made on the base of arsenic are prohibited, as arsenic is teratogenetic and may cause death of the fetus.   2. The dentist should apply anesthesia only when it is absolutely necessary, as it may penetrate placental septum.

  - Ultracaine is hypotoxic, has the least degree of penetration through placental barrier and minimal discharge into breast milk. When application of ultracaine is necessary during pregnancy, it is recommended to use ultracaine D-C. There is no need for breast feeding mother to stop breast feeding, as ultracaine is not discharged into milk in clinically significant quantities.
  - Ubistesineis hypotoxic. Its active elements have the least degree of penetration through placental barrier and minimal discharge into breast milk. There is not enough data for evaluation of its safety for pregnant women. There is no need for breast feeding mother to stop breast feeding, as ubistesine is not discharged into milk in clinically significant quantities.
  - Septanestpenetrates through placental barrier, and although there is no data about its toxic effect, this anesthetic should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
   In case of inflammation application of some antibiotics is acceptable. If there are any contraindications it is recommended to see your gynecologist before going to the dentist.
  3. Infection in pregnant woman's body will have negative impact on her own as well as her baby's health. À bad tooth is nothing else but a point of infection. On the early stages of pregnancy it is necessary to visit a dentist, who will cure cavities and will control the health of your teeth during pregnancy. Besides, your dentist will inform you about individual risk factors as well as possible prevention measures.
  4. Don't whiten your teeth during pregnancy, as nowadays there is no data concerning harmful effect from swallowing insignificant quantities of bleaching solution.
  5. Don't worry! To keep yourself calm, go to see the dentist you trust.
